Kylie Jenner, the 17 year old model and star of, ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ recently revealed that she had lip fillers to augment her lips. Kylie is a half sister to Kim and Courtney Kardashian and is an icon and idol to many young women around the world.
At Array Aesthetics, we have seen a rise in enquiries for lip fillers and lip augmentation from the young female population of Belfast and Northern Ireland since the news about Kylie’s lip filler treatment. We have swiftly turned many of these young women (some as young as 16!) away on the advice that they are much too young. The medical team at Array Aesthetics finds it abhorrent that a practitioner has treated a 17 year old with lip fillers. Not only is a 17 year old unlikely to be developed psychologically enough for such treatment, her face and lips will not have developed fully physically.
Almost certainly, Kylie has been treated with a hyaluronic acid (HA) based dermal filler. HA fillers are by far the most widely used filler in the world. The form used in lip fillers usually gives results for 6-12 months and is therefore considered temporary. They are very effective, highly tested and have excellent short and long term safety profiles. However, if used in the wrong hands the short and long term negatives can be devastating. Side effects include infection, bleeding, long term hard lumps (granulomas) and even lip necrosis.
If you are considering lip fillers in Belfast or Northern Ireland, we urge you to discuss this with a medical professional such as one of the Array doctors. At Array, we only use FDA tested dermal fillers within a sterile field.
