Menopause & Wellness

Menopause & Wellness Overview

Menopause & Wellness care is a personalised medical service designed to support women through perimenopause and menopause with safe, evidence-based treatment. Led by Dr Jill Brownlees, an experienced menopause specialist, care is tailored to each patient’s symptoms, health profile, and long-term goals.

This approach focuses on understanding hormonal changes and their impact on physical, emotional, and cognitive health. Treatment may include Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), lifestyle guidance, and ongoing monitoring. The goal is to improve quality of life while supporting long-term health, ensuring each patient feels informed, supported, and confident in their care. This creates a comprehensive and structured approach to menopause management.

Choosing Menopause & Wellness

Choosing menopause care involves more than symptom relief. It requires a personalised approach that considers your overall health, lifestyle, and long-term wellbeing. During consultation, your symptoms, medical history, and treatment goals are carefully assessed to create a tailored plan.

Our aim is simple: to help you feel heard, supported, and confident in your care. Women across Belfast and Northern Ireland choose our Menopause & Wellness Clinic for specialist expertise, personalised treatment plans, evidence-based care, supportive consultations, and ongoing monitoring. This ensures every patient receives a clear, structured, and supportive pathway tailored to their individual needs and long-term health goals.

Menopause & Wellness vs. Other Treatments

Menopause & Wellness care differs from general treatment approaches by focusing on personalised, evidence-based care rather than a one-size-fits-all model. While some patients may receive basic support through standard healthcare pathways, specialist menopause care provides a more detailed and tailored approach.

This includes comprehensive assessment, ongoing monitoring, and treatment plans designed around your individual symptoms and health profile. Options such as hormone replacement therapy, lifestyle guidance, and non-hormonal treatments are carefully considered. This ensures more effective symptom management while protecting future health outcomes, helping patients feel confident, informed, and fully supported throughout their menopause journey.

What It Treats

Menopause & Wellness care addresses symptoms associated with perimenopause and menopause, including hot flushes, night sweats, low mood, anxiety, sleep disturbance, brain fog, and vaginal dryness. Treatment also supports long-term health by managing hormonal changes that can affect bone density, heart health, and overall wellbeing across all stages of menopause.

Benefits

Menopause care provides personalised, evidence-based treatment designed to improve quality of life and restore hormonal balance. Benefits include reduced symptoms, improved sleep, better mood, and enhanced overall wellbeing. Ongoing monitoring ensures treatment remains safe, effective, and tailored to your individual health needs, supporting long-term health and overall confidence.

Additional Treatments

In addition to HRT, treatment plans may include lifestyle and nutritional support, vaginal health treatments, and non-hormonal options where appropriate. A holistic approach ensures all aspects of your health are considered, supporting both symptom relief and long-term wellbeing through personalised care, tailored guidance, and ongoing specialist support over time.

Types of HRT Available

Oestrogen

Oestrogen therapy helps relieve common menopause symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness. It can be delivered through patches, gel, spray, or tablets, allowing treatment to be tailored to patient preference and clinical suitability. This flexibility supports effective symptom control and improves overall hormonal balance and wellbeing.

Progesterone

Progesterone is prescribed alongside oestrogen for patients with a uterus to protect the lining of the womb. It may be delivered as capsules or through an intrauterine system such as the Mirena coil, depending on individual needs and treatment goals, ensuring safe, balanced, and effective hormone therapy over time.

Testosterone

Some patients may also benefit from testosterone therapy, where clinically appropriate. Testosterone can support energy levels, mood, and libido in women experiencing hormonal changes, and is prescribed following careful assessment and monitoring. It forms part of a personalised treatment plan designed to improve wellbeing and restore hormonal balance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need blood tests to diagnose menopause?

Blood tests are not always required when assessing menopause symptoms. Menopause is often diagnosed based on symptoms and age rather than testing alone. However, blood tests may be recommended if you are under 40, if symptoms are unclear, or to check thyroid function, vitamin levels, or suitability for certain treatments.

How often are follow-up appointments needed?

Follow-up appointments are usually recommended around three months after starting or adjusting treatment. These visits allow your clinician to review your response, adjust medication if needed, monitor side effects, and ensure your treatment plan remains effective. Ongoing follow-up supports long-term health, symptom control, and safe, personalised menopause care over time.

What symptoms can menopause treatment help with?

Menopause treatment can help relieve a wide range of symptoms, including hot flushes, night sweats, low mood, anxiety, brain fog, and sleep disturbances. It can also improve vaginal dryness and discomfort. Treatment is tailored to your symptoms to support both immediate relief and long-term health, wellbeing, and hormonal balance.

Is hormone replacement therapy safe?

Hormone Replacement Therapy is considered safe for many women when prescribed appropriately and monitored by a specialist. Your individual health history, risk factors, and treatment goals are carefully assessed. This ensures the most suitable and safe approach to managing menopause symptoms while supporting long-term health and overall wellbeing outcomes.

When should I consider menopause treatment?

You should consider menopause treatment if symptoms are affecting your quality of life, including sleep, mood, or daily functioning. Early assessment allows for timely support and a personalised treatment approach. This helps manage symptoms effectively, reduce long-term health risks, and support overall wellbeing throughout perimenopause and menopause stages for better outcomes.
